Tasks

The IONAS Group is a member of the European RTD network ION CATCHER, which develops techniques for efficient slowing down, stopping in gas, and extraction of short-lived ions. The Gießen Gruppe group has the following tasks:

Development of the ion-optical layout of an energy-buncher stage for relativistic heavy ions
Coupling of a time-of-flight mass spectrometer to a gas-filled stopping cell
Performance tests of the mass spectrometer, identification of stopped ions and chemical studies
